How to make an AI image look real

AIImageEditor.pro · Published · Last updated

To make an AI image look real, fix the few things people notice first: waxy skin, light with no source, over-saturated colour, a melted background and too-perfect symmetry. You can re-prompt the generator, retouch by hand, or run the picture through an AI image humanizer that keeps the person and the pose and re-renders only those surfaces (5 credits on AIImageEditor.pro).

Why AI images look generated

Image generators are trained on huge numbers of retouched photos. Left alone, they average toward that polish: every pore smoothed, every highlight lifted, every colour pushed. People have now seen enough of it to spot it in a second, even when they cannot say why.

The good news is that composition and pose are rarely the problem. To make an AI image look real, a fix touches the surface and leaves the picture you like.

Fix 1: give the skin real texture

Real skin has pores, fine lines, small redness and unevenness that change with age. Ask for exactly that: "real skin for a woman in her forties, visible pores and fine lines, no airbrushing". Avoid "flawless" or "perfect skin" in any prompt.

Fix 2: make the light come from somewhere

In an AI image, a glowing rim around a person indoors, or a face lit evenly from every side, gives the image away. Decide where the light is (a window, a ceiling lamp, the sun) and make shadows agree with it.

Fix 3: bring colour back to normal

Generated colour is often too clean: saturated skin, teal shadows, orange highlights. A real phone records duller, more neutral colour with a little noise. Removing a colour grade alone can be enough; Remove AI Look does only that if you ask.

Fix 4: give the background real depth

AI backgrounds tend to melt into creamy blur. A phone keeps the background soft but readable: you can still tell it is a cafe, a street, a kitchen. Ask for "background slightly out of focus but recognisable".

Fix 5: break the symmetry

Real faces are a little uneven: one eyebrow higher, ears different, a parting that is not centred. Identical earrings and mirrored features are a typical AI tell.

Fix 6: check hands, text and small objects

Fingers, jewellery and lettering still go wrong more often than faces. Zoom in before you publish, and fix text with an editor model that is good at lettering (GPT Image 2 or 2.5).

Fix 7: add ordinary imperfections

A crumb, a crease in a shirt, a slightly crooked frame. Real scenes are lived in; AI images are staged. One or two small details are enough.

Re-prompting, retouching or a humanizer?

There are three ways to make an AI image look real. Re-prompting costs nothing extra if you already pay for a generator, but you get a new picture each time. Manual retouching gives full control but takes an hour or more and real skill. An AI image humanizer keeps your exact picture and changes only the surface in about half a minute.

On AIImageEditor.pro there are three tools for this: the AI image humanizer for an all-round phone-photo look, Remove AI Look for one specific tell, and Make AI Photo Realistic to turn drawings, game shots and renders into photos. Each costs 5 credits.

Be honest about edited images

Making an AI image look natural is fine for a menu, a website or a profile. Passing a generated picture off as evidence, or as a real person who did not consent, is not. Follow the labelling rules of the platform you post on.

FAQ

What makes an AI image look fake?

Mostly the surface: poreless skin, glowing light with no source, saturated colour, a background melted into blur and perfect symmetry.

Can I make an AI image look real for free?

New accounts on AIImageEditor.pro get 5 free credits, enough for one humanizer pass (5 credits).

Will this make an image pass AI detection?

We do not claim that and the tools are not built for it. They make pictures look natural to people.
